Lyla and Mia Singing for George's Birthday

I was scrolling through my phone today when I found this video of Lyla and Mia singing I'm Yours by Jason Mraz for their Daddy's birthday last year, in May 2020. It filled me with a warm glow and I found myself sporting an incurable smile for a good while afterwards.

There's so much that I love about their beautiful performance. I love that my two gorgeous daughters went to the time and effort of rehearsing this because their Dad loves music and they knew it would mean a lot to him. I love that they collaborated and worked together, as both sisters and friends. I love that Mia wrote a personalised rap for the occasion and that Lyla plays the ukulele so well. I love their passion for the plan and the cool ease with which they delivered. And, of course, I love their sweet voices. I could listen to them endlessly on repeat.

Needless to say, George was overwhelmed with love and gratitude. It meant much more to him than any material gift ever would and it really made his day. He will cherish this beautiful memory forever.

It's quite poignant looking back, because at the time we were two months into the COVID19 pandemic, making the most of spending quality time with each other during the first lockdown. Little did we know that as I write this, sixteen months later, we would still be in the grips of this virus, living with restrictions and wondering when we'll ever return to normality. The pandemic has certainly brought challenges and hardships, but I do try my best to bear in mind that it has also brought togetherness, support and valuable family moments that I will always hold dear to my heart.
