Homemade Sweet Chilli Sauce
There are a few jars of homemade condiments that I always have available to use in my kitchen: hazelnut and chocolate spread (recipe here), hummus (recipe here), vegan mayonnaise (recipe here) and this simple sweet chilli sauce.
Most sweet chilli sauces on supermarket shelves are loaded with processed sugar and other additives, which is really off-putting, so it’s reassuring to know that this healthy version is made from natural ingredients.
I use it a lot in Asian inspired recipes, as a sauce for other dishes to give them a deliciously sweet kick, on its own as a dipping sauce or combined with my mayonnaise (recipe here) to make a sweet chilli mayo (simply combine 2 tbsp of mayo with 1 tbsp of sweet chilli sauce and add 1 clove of minced garlic).
Thoroughly combine the following ingredients in a vitamix or food processor until totally smooth:
1 red chilli, deseeded
2 chopped red capsicum, deseeded
A small chunk of fresh ginger (about 1cm)
5 pitted dates
2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
¼ tsp of sea salt
¼ tsp of black pepper
That's all there is to it! Keep in a jar in the fridge!
